Industrial Training is valuable in providing students with exposure to real work life situations which will equip them with the necessary skills and uplift their knowledge. This kind of training will give students a competitive edge in today's job market.

Procedures in applying for Industrial Training

Students need to fill in Application Form for Industrial Training, together with resume and submit to Centre of Learning and Competencies.

Students should identify prospective organizations for Industrial Training. Sample of Industrial Training placement can be found in Attachment 8 in the handbook and will be updated from time to time. Centre of Learning and Competencies will then write a letter to respective organization and notify the student on their training placement once it is granted.

Industrial Training is very important to expose students with real work life situation and to equip the students with necessary skills so that they will be job-ready when they graduate.

Students may realise their ambition and ascertain their career path from the experience gained during Industrial Training.

The attachment provides students the opportunity to meet and network with people in the industry, and the industry has the opportunity to identify talents and potential skilled workers. The Industrial Training Programme is a compulsory course listed in the curriculum for every UTM diploma student in TCS. It consists of two courses: Industrial Training (8 Credit) and Industrial Training Report and Seminar (4 Credit).

Industrial training is an essential component in the development of practical skills required by a student prior to graduation.

It is also an aspect of education that integrates knowledge with planned and supervised career-related work experience processes.

The purpose of the course is to develop and strengthen the students’ educational and career preparation. It allows the students to understand the connection between what is studied and how it is applied in the real world.

It also exposes the students to the interpersonal relationships a job requires, both with co-workers and superiors who are essential in obtaining a successful and satisfying career.

Requirement

Industrial training is a compulsory subject for all students registered under UTM Diploma. It has to be taken during the final semester and students must pass all the subjects with the minimum CGPA of 2.00. If the CGPA is less the 2.00, students must UG (Ulang Grad) for some of the subjects in order to improve the CGPA

Training Duration

The training duration is 20 Weeks (5 months). Any changes in the duration will be according to UTM Academic Calendar.

  • SHAD 4058 – Industrial Training Practical
  • SHAD 4064 – Industrial Training Report

Conditions for Registration of Industrial Training (IT)

Students will be allowed to register for IT after fulfilling the following conditions:

  • Obtained the number of credits determined by the faculty; And/Or
  • Have taken all the pre-requisite courses determined by the faculty; And/Or
  • Met the additional conditions determined by the faculty; And/Or
  • Students are not allowed to register for other courses while undergoing IT.
