Muslims around the world see the holy month of Ramadan as a time to bring family and community together in a month of spiritual reflection, piety and prayer. A ritual of fasting is observed for the month, with families uniting to breakfast at sunset in a celebration of their faith and devotion.

In observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Technology College Sarawak hosted its Annual “Sungkei” Program at their Student Residence, Demak Laut. This program was first initiated by TCS Badan Dakwah and has been a fixed program since four years ago. Varieties of food are catered by TCS Cafeteria in Styles and also donated by the staff.

Ustaz Muiz Zakaria, of TCS Badan Dakwah Team Leader said: "The program was organised as a mean to enhance excellent relationship, team spirit and religious knowledge amongst TCS students and staff. It is also to cultivate the sentiment of charities amongst its students with examples set by the staff themselves and it is in line with TCS mission to produce well balanced graduates”.

As a highlight event, last Saturday TCS hosted Sungkei at Padang TCS in collaboration with Cats FM. During the event, Cats FM rangers and their DJ’s join together with staffs and students of TCS for “sungkei” and Taraweeh. The event started with Cats FM preparing Bubur Pedas, which is one of the famous Sarawakian food especially during Ramadhan. Another attraction of the event is “bertuntong” activity that marks the start of the event. All guest had a great time enjoying great food and most importantly great companies. After “Sungkei”, they proceed to perform Maghrib prayer together. While waiting for Isya’ and Tarawih prayer, Ustaz Muiz gave a meaningful tazkirah. The event ended at 9.30 pm.
